Our May assembly is about how creative industries in Edinburgh, and specifically at Edinburgh College, are continuing to grow even in these pandemic times. Our speaker is Euan Jennings, who is involved in organising GLOW 2021, the festival for across the creative spectrum including Performing Arts; Broadcast Media and Photography; Computing; Music and Sound Production; and Art and Design. As with 2020 the festival is going online, and Euan will be talking about the ways in which our young people are continuing to work together. He writes:
“GLOW is a Edinburgh College Creative Industries festival that has been running every year throughout May and June since 2014, taking place in iconic venues across Edinburgh. It is a chance for the students of that year to show off all their hard work and achievements on a public stage. The GLOW festival features performances and exhibitions from students across the Creative Industries including Art & Design, Performing Arts, Broadcast Media, Music and Computing. During normal years we have over 5,000 attendees however last year with our virtual GLOW we had over 97,000 viewers and this year we are aiming to surpass those numbers!”
There will also be poems, songs to sing along with (in the privacy of your own home), reflections and a chance to chat with fellow assemblers. And we are delighted to welcome our old friend Sebastian Meller to host the event, all the way from Switzerland. All welcome!
We will also be sharing plans for opening up community meetings to encourage anyone to come forward with actions and activities connected with our motto of Live Better, Help Often and Wonder More. Come and join us on Sunday 2 May at 11.30 on Zoom. If you haven’t registered yet (and most have) then please do so at Meeting Registration – Zoom.
